Firm Up While Slimming Down: Tips for Healthy Weight Loss

If you don't have an excessive amount of loose skin already, it's possible to lose weight and keep your skin firm in the process. The key is to stay well-hydrated every day. NEVER let yourself become dehydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and NEVER completely eliminate carbohydrates from your diet. From my experience, most people who lose weight too quickly by cutting out carbs end up with a lot of excess skin.

The goal is to lose weight to get healthier and, of course, to look better both with your clothes ON and OFF.

Here are some tips:

1. Follow a well-rounded, balanced diet.

2. Alternate your exercise routine: Switch between a full-body routine and a split routine every 4 weeks. For example, do a full-body routine for 4 weeks, then a split routine for 4 weeks, and so on.

3. Take cold arctic cod liver oil: If you don't have stomach ulcers and aren't on blood thinners, take ONE TEASPOON of cold arctic cod liver oil ONCE PER DAY with your evening meal.

4. Take 1000-1500mg of lecithin per day: Lecithin is known to increase skin elasticity.

5. Increase circulation: Skin brushing techniques and deep massages are very effective. Look up skin brushing online for more information.

6. Lose weight gradually: If you are more than 75 pounds overweight, DO NOT try to lose weight too fast. Aim to lose about 3 pounds per week to prevent sagging skin. Losing weight too quickly often results in loose skin.

7. Consider body wraps: Some of my clients have had success with weekly body wraps, but they can be messy. This is optional and not necessary.

You can also take a collagen supplement to support skin elasticity.

As I mentioned, keeping your body well-hydrated is crucial for increasing skin elasticity. The average person needs at least ½ an ounce of water per pound of body weight, possibly more depending on your daily exercise. Many people end up with loose skin after losing weight because they follow low-carb diets that dehydrate the body. If you lose weight while dehydrated, most of the weight lost is just water weight.

Aim to lose 2-3 pounds per week for the best results. Losing 4-6 pounds per week is pushing the limit, and losing more than 6 pounds per week will likely result in loose skin due to excessive carbohydrate restriction. Cutting out refined flours, breads, and sugars will yield the best results.

Instead of relying on the scale to measure your progress, pay attention to how your clothes fit. I always tell my clients to try on their tightest pair of pants, follow my program for 4 weeks, and then try them on again. After 4 weeks, those tight-fitting pants will be a thing of the past.

Follow these tips, and you'll see satisfactory results!
